The workshop “Erklärvideos leicht gemacht: Deutsch lernen mit Spaß” took place on April 25,
2023 and was organized by the Academic Group of German Studies and the German Studies
Section of the Janus Pannonius College at Partium Christian University.
Led by Dr. Sándor Trippó from the Goethe Institute in Budapest, the workshop allowed
participants to become closely acquainted with the many ways of using audio-visual materials
creatively and diversely in teaching German as a foreign language. The variety of creative
learning activities organized into “learning stations” in which the participants were given group
tasks was a main attraction. Thus, the participants, divided into teams, were exposed to various learning situations, that activated their imagination and trained their competencies, skills, and abilities.
At the same time, they experienced and understood the benefits of cooperative learning,
but also the need to give a new impetus to the learners’ increased autonomy in the learning-
teaching process. In this respect, it should be mentioned that the participants could independently check the results of each group activity. Spontaneity, a good mood, and the desire to learn and assimilate as much as possible marked the atmosphere of this creative learning workshop. It can be said that the benefits were not only professional, but also personal, as those present had the opportunity to get to know their teammates better or even to get to know some of them.
This workshop was a welcome and extremely useful step in enhancing the motivation of the participants and in shaping a new vision for the possibilities of using new teaching materials. It also represented a convincing argument for using interactive methods in teaching German as a foreign language as well as in other teaching settings.
